Another
great night at the Sovereign last Saturday. Our #1 fan
Sue B was there and brought loads of friends, so that
helped to bump up the numbers. A great time was had
by all - especially me!
BAD
NEWS...
The gig at the Latin Corner scheduled for Jan 21st.
has been cancelled as the manager has decided to move
on. It's possible we might be able to team up with new
management, but I have no idea really - wait and see.
Been
a bit short of gigs this season so far, the only sure
thing right now is a benefit coming up in March, but
I'll try and get a February date at the Sovereign.

Sorry,
not managed to get any of that last gig up yet - time,
time, time!
Don't
forget we're at the Royal Sovereign
this Saturday December 10th - should be good,
we've got a new number to play as well!
Also
forgot to mention confirmation of a gig at a NEW VENUE
- the LATIN CORNER on January
21st 2012.
Entry
will be £5 or £3 for concessions.
The
Latin Corner is at 283 Camden Road, N7 0JN. See Gig
Page for more detail.

Last
night I received audio & video files from the October
8th gig at the Royal Sovereign.
I
will get stuck into editing these today and put some
of it up as soon as I can - watch this space!

Anyone
who missed us at the Royal Sovereign
last Saturday missed possibly the BEST
GIG WE'VE EVER PLAYED!
The
Great Spirit of Music visited
with us all that night and we played a fantastic gig.
Many numbers sounded like never before and I don't
really understand where it all came from, there was
MAGIC in the air!
One
of the audience has got in touch to say he took video
& sound recordings of this gig, so I hope to be
able to put some of that up in due course.
Anyway
we're at the Sov again on December 10th - let's hope
it's just as good...

Sovereign again for Saturday
October 8th. Let's hope it's as good as last
time!!
That's
basically down to YOU GUYS out there... Na Wa Meen? |

Hey
- FANTASTIC NIGHT at the Royal Sovereign on Saturday!
Did all my marketing tactics pay off, or was it just
good luck?
My friend Martin was over from Canada and there was
quite a meeting of old friends who used to share Hackney
squats back in the 1970s.
Friends
turned up from all over, plus there were people there
who saw us the previous Saturday as well - gluttons
for punishment, but no, we were HOT this last Saturday
night & defo worth seeing again!
That's
the last public gig for this "season", though
we do play a private gig this coming weekend as well.
We've played a lot of gigs lately, so should be good
& tight for the upcoming gig - sorry it's private...
So,
that concludes our 2011 East London tour! |

Over
a month again! Slap on the wrist again...
Lots
of private gigs around this time (like tomorrow), but
we are playing a Fundraiser to build a Learning Centre
for disadvantaged children in Santa Marta, Columbia.
This will be at Tottenham Chances
Club, 399 High Road, N17 6QN on June
25th.
Starts 8:30pm - first act is a Flamenco Troupe, then
us.
Tickets £8 in advance, £9
on the door - ticket price includes FOOD!
EMAIL
ME for advance tickets.
Next
public gig after this is at the Royal Sovereign July
2nd. |

OK,
here's a couple of pics of the "colourful"
gig last Friday:

We
weren't playing at this point, there was a speech taking
place - these teachers always have their speeches &
suchlike! |

We
played a private do last Friday evening for the 25th
anniversary of a school Day Care Centre. That was the
wedding day of someone somewhere, and we all had the
day off for it. Great rubber "stage"
with a transluscent cover - for some reason it felt
like playing at a festival - lots of colour around,
will try & put some pics up somewhere in due course.
Great
evening, lots of great food and drinks.
I
learned something distinctly odd that evening:
A while back we'd played at this same school in the
playground of an evening. Some disgruntled local
rushed up to me whilst we were playing and faced me
off demanding that we "STOP IMMEDIATELY!"
We didn't stop of course. I had felt like thumping
him, as he was extremely agressive, but thought better
of it.
Now on Friday I learn that someone, on my behalf, later
nutted this bloke & knocked him out! Though
it's nice to know somebody acted for me, this is strange
behaviour for school people... |

Forgot
to mention that the turnout for last Saturday was
NOT GOOD!
Was it the fact that most of our regulars had been on
the march against cuts that day?
Dunno,
but we HAVE TO DO BETTER!
It's not as if we aren't good enough - something's
wrong with our marketing maybe - not sure what else
we can do, but I have joined up with the Friends of
the Royal Sovereign on Facebook, recommended by the
barmaid there who runs the "Friends of" site.
Perhaps that will help.
Anyway,
got lots of PRIVATE GIGS coming up, so will not be playing
in public for a while. Am trying to organise a
July date at the Royal
Sov. |

We
had Derek Gale on drums with us for the Royal Sov gig
last Saturday. He did us proud as usual and we
played a really good 1st set - tight and precise.
When
we arrived, it was like a scene from a Discworld story
- there were about 14 female ukelele players where we
like to set up, all sitting around tables with charts
& lyrics, singing songs and playing their instruments!
They went on for a few numbers before we managed
to persuade them to leave. In retrospect, quite
a laugh. |

We
played the Boat Club last Saturday and most of us wore
coats whilst playing! It was COLD
down by the river that night.
There
was just one heater at one end of the big room. I don't
remember playing in such COLD
conditions ever! Not one drop of perspiration. Instruments
were difficult to keep in tune - as soon as you put
them down, they started getting really cold and thus
de-tuning.
However,
we muddled through & the folks seemed to love us
as usual... |

The
December 18th gig was pretty good, but it was FREEZING
and loads of snow about, so not perhaps as well attended
as we were hoping - nemind A!
Next
public gig at the Boathouse, January
29th. It's a benefit for the Lea Rowing
Club - tickets £10 in advance including a meal!
Not a good idea to just turn up - get your tickets
first!
