Jim started
learning the piano at age 5 and took up the flute at age 10. He started
teaching himself guitar from about 13 (after first hearing the Rolling
Stones in 1963). In 1968 he joined his first touring band, playing
'Folk Rock'. By 1971, he had become a full-time musician, playing
mostly solo in folk clubs with his guitar.
After
a stint on the folk circuit, he joined a band with an old friend from
school, which was a Classic Rock band of the 'Genesis' ilk. After
that, it was be-bop jazz rock playing mostly guitar and some flute
with Megalopolis, a wild and REALLY LOUD band. Then
there were 'The Survivors', the first user (as far as we know) of
that name. 'The Survivors' were a 'two-tone' type of band before that
sound became popular out of the midlands in the late 70s. Management
problems were the demise of that band in the end.
Jim played
with many bands and went up and down the M1 more times than he cares
to remember, also touring in Europe - Holland, Germany, France. His
dues have been payed and he still awaits recognition!
